Arbors are vertical structures that can provide shelter, privacy, shade, and accent other landscape features or blend with it or separate various garden areas or direct traffic. An arbor’s walls and roof are usually made of an open framework that supports colorful and fragrant vines. It can be attached to a fence, wall, or structure or be freestanding. Arbors are typically made from wood or iron, consisting of two or four posts with a slatted roof. Sometimes the slatted roofs are arched. The arbor’s sides can be open or covered with lattice or trellis work for a more enclosed effect and to help vines attach themselves more securely.
